What to expect at Advanced Digestive Clinic;

Referral

Your first appointment with Dr. Ryan Abraham is more than just a medical review. It’s all about connection and conversation. He understands that seeing a specialist can feel overwhelming, and he wants to make the experience as comfortable and reassuring as possible. He will take the time to listen to your story, understand your concerns, and provide thoughtful guidance tailored to your needs.

Dr. Ryan Abraham values shared decision-making and takes a collaborative approach to your care, working with you to determine the best path forward.

To schedule an appointment with Dr. Ryan Abraham, a valid referral from your GP or specialist is required. Once your referral is received, it will be reviewed within 48 hours, and our team will contact you to arrange your visit.

For urgent referrals, we prioritise them and will make every effort to accommodate you as quickly as possible. Your referring doctor will also be notified once an urgent referral has been processed.

Consultation

When you arrive at one of our clinics, please check in at the reception desk and allow 15 minutes before your appointment for registration. Our registration form can also be sent to your email and filled out prior to your arrival.

What to Bring to Your Appointment:

  • Your General Practitioner (GP) referral letter

  • Any recent test results (blood tests, stool tests, scans, prior scope reports)

  • A list of your current medications

  • Other relevant medical records

  • Medicare card

  • Health insurance fund card

This helps Dr. Ryan Abraham understand your medical history and the reason for your visit, ensuring he provides the best possible care.

There is a fee for your consultation, but a portion will be rebated through Medicare. If you are scheduled for a procedure, we will provide full informed financial consent beforehand, so you’ll know exactly what to expect.

Preparation

Some of our procedures require bowel preparation to ensure optimal results. The type and extent of preparation needed will vary depending on your individual health and the procedure you're undergoing. Dr Ryan will discuss all preparation requirements during your consultation and provide personalised guidance. Please review the preparation instructions below for your scheduled procedure:

Procedure

If a procedure is recommended, our team will be with you every step of the way. We understand that the thought of having a procedure can feel overwhelming, and it’s completely normal to feel nervous. Dr. Ryan Abraham takes the time to explain everything in detail during your consultation, so you feel informed and at ease. And if you have any questions later, don’t worry—our friendly staff are always available to help.

Dr. Ryan Abraham performs endoscopic procedures at Double Bay Day Hospital, Smithfield Endoscopy Centre, and Shellharbour Private Hospital. Each hospital has its own registration and admission process, and we’ll guide you through what to expect to make the process as seamless as possible.

We’ll provide pre-admission information well in advance, giving you plenty of time to prepare—both mentally and for your bowel preparation!

When you arrive, the hospital’s excellent staff will take great care of you. Endoscopic procedures are day procedures, meaning you’ll be able to go home the same day. Most procedures take between 10 to 30 minutes, and all are performed under anaesthesia to ensure your comfort. Because of this, you’ll need to arrange for someone to drive you home safely.

If you have any concerns or need guidance at any point, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our team is here to support you and make your experience as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Follow-Up

Dr. Ryan Abraham will provide a personalised follow-up plan during your consultation, ensuring it aligns with your specific symptoms and healthcare needs.

If you’ve had a procedure, we’ll guide you through your recovery with clear aftercare instructions and a plan for follow-up. Your health and comfort are our priority, and we’re always here if you have any questions or concerns after your visit.
